10. Spam protection
Junk sent through your forms and comments is filtered out before it reaches you. If a real enquiry ever goes missing, tell us rather than loosening the filter yourself.
Any form on the open internet attracts junk — automated submissions selling things, phishing attempts, and nonsense. Your site filters these before they reach you.
10.1 What it does
Submissions are checked as they arrive and the junk is stopped. You never see most of it, which is the point. A busy site can attract hundreds of junk submissions a month; if you are receiving none, the filter is doing its job.
10.2 The trade-off worth understanding
No filter is perfect. Set loosely it lets junk through; set tightly it occasionally catches a real person. We aim deliberately toward the loose end, because a little junk in your inbox is a nuisance while a lost customer enquiry is a lost customer.
10.3 If you think a real enquiry was blocked
Tell us, with roughly when it was sent and who from. Blocked submissions are retained for a period, so there is a good chance we can retrieve it and let that sender through in future.
10.4 If junk starts getting through
Also tell us. Do not tighten the filter yourself — over-tightened filtering fails silently, and you would have no way of knowing which real enquiries never arrived. We would rather adjust it carefully and watch what happens.
10.5 A word on phishing
Some junk is written to look like a real enquiry so you will reply or click. If a message seems oddly urgent, vague about what it wants, or asks you to sign in somewhere, treat it with suspicion. Forward it to us if you are unsure — we would much rather look at ten harmless messages than miss one that mattered.
Still stuck?
You have a steward, not a ticket queue. Reach out and a real person from the valley will answer.
