2. Editing a page

Updating your own wording — new opening hours, a changed phone number, a price — is straightforward and you will not hurt anything.

2.1 Making a text change

1. Sign in to your website.
2. Choose Pages from the left-hand menu and find the page you want.
3. Open it for editing. Depending on how your page was built, this opens either the standard editor or the visual builder — either way, your text is directly editable on screen.
4. Click into the text and make your change.
5. Choose Update or Publish to save.
6. Open your site in a new tab to check it looks right.

2.2 A few habits worth having

• Change one thing at a time and save. If something looks wrong you will know exactly what caused it.
• Type your text, do not paste it from Word. Pasted text can carry hidden formatting that looks fine to you and wrong to everyone else. If you must paste, use paste-as-plain-text.
• Always look at the live page afterwards. The editor is a close approximation, not a photograph.

2.3 When to ask us instead

Text is yours. Moving things around, changing colours or fonts, adding sections, or swapping images tends to be quicker for us than for you, and it keeps the site consistent. Send us what you want changed and it will be done properly.

2.4 If something goes wrong

Tell us. Your site is backed up daily and previous versions of every page are kept, so a bad edit is an inconvenience, not a catastrophe. Do not spend an evening trying to put it back — that is what we are for.
